What is a DNS leak?
A DNS leak happens when your device sends domain name requests outside your VPN tunnel, usually to your ISP or another resolver you did not expect.
Even if your visible public IP changes, leaked DNS requests can still reveal browsing patterns or your original network path.
Why does it happen?
- incorrect VPN configuration
- system resolver issues
- browser behavior
- mixed IPv4 and IPv6 routing
How do you reduce DNS leaks?
- use a VPN that pushes DNS correctly
- disable unused IPv6 if necessary
- test after changing VPN settings
