What is my IP address?

An IP address is the public network address websites and online services use to communicate with your device or your router.

In most cases, websites do not see your local computer address. They usually see your public internet address, which belongs to your connection, ISP, VPN, proxy, or hosting provider.

What can a website learn from my IP?

A website can often estimate:

• country or city
• internet provider
• whether the IP belongs to a VPN or hosting network
• rough connection origin

This information is approximate. IP geolocation is useful, but not always exact.
